History of this Location
The hill of Castel Montecchio is a residential area on the top of which stands what was once an exclusive medieval fortress, converted around 1450 into a monastery of the Served Fathers and finally in the 1700s in a luxurious patrician villa which was designed by the famous architect Leopold Pollack. The area is a renowned wine-growing area which lies in the province of Bergamo; the name derives in fact from the Greek Kalos-Epias, which indicates a terrain “good and sweet”, where the climate is particularly mild, which is due to its proximity to the lake. Lake Iseo, in fact, lies just a 5-minute drive away so does the towns of Sarnico and Paratico. Easy to reach by motorway from the airport in Bergamo.
